Signs Of A Speech Delay

Consider seeking an evaluation if your child does not meet these milestones

  • Age 2: uses at least 50 words; answers yes/no questions

  • Age 2 1/2: puts two-word phrases together; asks for things with words rather than gestures; asks “why?”; follows 2-step directions

  • Age 3: uses at least 200 words; uses 3-word sentences; you understand at least 75% of what they say; answers “who, what, where” questions

  • Age 4: uses 4+ word sentences; uses pronouns (e.g. “I, you, me, we”); asks “when/how” questions
